After 30.000 people have been murdered during almost 5 months of relentless and pitiless aerial bombardment and fire arms shot by invading troops, Gaza’s 2.3 million inhabitans are being pushed into famine.
It seems that the zionist Israhelli leaders, their main partner (the United States of Agression) and its other European accomplices (including the governments of Germany, the U.K. and the Nederlands), which are the joint venture that perpetrates and perpetuates the on-going genocidal aggression against the besieged palestinian coastal enclave, don’t feel they’ve reached the point of “enough is enough”.
In the 25th of February, 2024, a baby called Mahmoud Fattouh died of starvation in the Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza. He was two months old and “died from acute malnutrition”, as AlJazeera reports: “Mahmoud’s death came as the Israeli government – which launched its assault on Gaza following attacks by Hamas fighters in October – continues to ignore global appeals to allow more aid into the Palestinian enclave.” [1]
A few days afterwards, in February 29th, the Israhelli occupying forces have proven once again they’re not satisfied with “using starvation as a weapon of war”, to phrase it like Oxfam did in its shocking report [2]. They’re also willing to open fire indiscriminately against people who are trying to reach for the insufficient food that trickles into the territory in meagre aid trucks that have been severely dwindled since October 8th 2023.
In an event that has been called The Flour Massacre, at least 112 people were killed and 760 were injured “when desperate crowds gathered around aid trucks and Israeli troops opened fire”, as The Guardian reports:
“With much of Gaza in ruins and the majority of its population displaced from their homes, almost everyone now relies on aid. The head of UNRWA, Lazzarini, described the restrictions as a siege that had brought the strip to the brink of an unprecedented human-made famine: ‘What’s extraordinary in this conflict is the man-made widespread hunger and even looming starvation and famine in some pockets,’ he said. ‘The type of situation or siege being imposed on the Gaza Strip since October 7 has led to a situation not seen anywhere else in the world. Within four or five months, suddenly we talk about a famine, which is absolutely easy to reverse because to reverse it depends only and exclusively on the proper political will.” (THE GUARDIAN, 2024)
During a demonstration in Den Haag, in March 2nd 2024, we’ve talked with Aysis Plet, an animal rights activist from the Nederlands, about the latest atrocities commited by the zionist armed forces against people in Palestine: [4].
In this occasion, we the peaceful demonstrators had been forcibly displaced by police repression from our initial gathering in front of the israeli embassy, and were completely surrounded by the Dutch Politie which made it impossible for us to launch a march through the city.
According to the United Nation’s Human Rights Office, “from mid-January to the end of February 2024, the Office has recorded at least 14 incidents involving shooting and shelling of people gathered to receive desperately needed supplies at Al Kuwait Roundabout on Salah Ad Deen Road and Al Nabulsi Roundabout – two entrances to Gaza City – with a majority of these incidents resulting in casualties. Israel’s choices of methods and means of warfare have caused a humanitarian catastrophe. Such choices included the imposition of a siege on Gaza, other restrictions on humanitarian assistance and the distribution of commercial goods, vast destruction of civilian infrastructure, including roads vital for accessing the population, and restrictions on the movement between the north and south of Gaza. As a result, food distribution to civilians in need in the north of the Gaza strip has been rendered virtually impossible. The entire population is suffering acute food insecurity, approximately 25 per cent are already starving. By 29 February, at least nine children had reportedly died from starvation and malnutrition due to the lack of food in the north of Gaza.” (UN, 2024) [5]
It’s beyond shocking that the fascist, racist, supremacist, right-wing regime that governs Israel is still drawing targets in the bodies of civilians: “Over 12,000 children have been killed in Gaza in 140 days of war, compared to 579 in the two-year Russia-Ukraine war”, the Palestine Chronicles reports [6].
The so-called West, which loves to call itself The First World, has shown its propensity for double standards by being hysterical about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine while being complicit with the far worse slaughtering of children, women, elderly and un-armed civilians in Gaza.
The Flour Massacres, in the plural because it’s not an isolated event, comes to further expose how degraded and damaged is the ethical compass of both the Israeli criminal regime and its partners in the ethnical cleansing of Palestine. The West vs The Rest is the ideology here, soaked with white supremacy, imperalist arrogance and the fanatical folly of “biblical claims” to a territory violently purged in the 1948’s Nakba in order for the advent of the state of Israel.
The West has lost any moral authority after this shameful backing of Israel’s disrespect for international law and fundamental human rights. The West has gladly dived into a whirlpool of human blood to defend the indefensable system of settler colonialism through mass killings that fascist zionist is engaged in.
It’s quite astonishing to see how far can the Israeli establishment go in its disregard for the United Nations’ Supreme Court, the ICJ in De.n Haag, which accepted the South African claim that there’s plausibly a genocide being commited in the occupied territory of Gaza. The ICJ, in late January 2024, ruled that Israel should take several measures to avoid mass suffering and death of palestinians – but that seems to have fallen into deaf ears in Satanyahu’s horde.
According to the Middle East Monitor: “Since the ICJ order, the number of aid trucks entering Gaza has precipitously declined. Within three weeks, it had fallen by a third, while an average of 146 trucks a day were coming in prior. Then, the numbers fell to about 105. Prior to the 7 October assault by Hamas, approximately 500 trucks were entering the Strip on a daily basis…” [7]
Besides that, the intentional dismantlement of funding for UNRWA, adding to the bombardment of schools, hospitals and refugee camps that UNRWA runs, not to mention the more than 100 UNRWA staff that lost their lifes, further complicates the severe humanitarian crisis. At the end of February 2024, “UN’s Palestinian aid agency is ‘at breaking point’ after $450m budget shortfall”, The Guardian reports [8].
The Brazilian president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has been of one of the few heads-of-State worldwide who dared to rise up and use his voice to denounce the Israeli’s genocidal intent. Seraj Assi, in the Jacobin, highlights that months before his groundbreaking statement in Ethiopia, Lula had already condemned Israel’s state terrorism:
“In November, after Israel besieged Gaza’s largest hospital, Lula declared that ”Israel’s attitude toward children, toward women, is the equivalent of terrorism. There’s no other way to put it.’ He added: ‘If I know a place is full of children, even if there’s a monster inside, I can’t kill the children just because I want to kill the monster’.'” (JACOBIN: 2024) [9]
We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people in its struggle for liberation from the atrocities of settler colonialism, imperial arrogance and religious fanaticism that drive the monstruous alliance of zionism with most of the West. Palestinians must have the right to self-determination and to a life freed from occupation, apartheid, famine and mass killings such as Israel has been imposing upon it for decades.
